About mykhaylo gubskyi

Greetings! I am Mykhaylo Gubskyi, a music producer and film score composer, offering over ten years of experience in the music industry, coupled with five years of specialized expertise in music production. I was born on October 25, 2000, in Ukraine. Notably, I've had the honor of composing music for Germany's top television channel, ZDF, and collaborating with the Internationale Filmschule Köln.

My introduction to music began early when I first tried my hand at the piano. However, the old-fashioned post-Soviet methods of piano instruction failed to ignite my love for music. The monotony of scales and children's songs left me uninspired, leading me to abandon piano lessons after just a year, despite excelling in my exams.

Yet, a deep connection to music lingered within me, and seven years later, I embarked on a new chapter in my musical journey. This time, I chose to start afresh, not with children's compositions, but with Rachmaninoff's early opuses. Academics may view this as an unorthodox approach to piano learning, but for me, it was the key to unlocking my musical potential. During this period, I also took my initial steps into the world of music composition, laying the foundation for my first piano piece, 'Thule,' which would later be released after a few years.

Within a year, I had not only mastered the piano but had successfully passed all entry exams, earning a coveted spot at the Kharkiv Lyceum of Arts №133. This stage marked a significant turning point. I quickly ascended to become one of the most accomplished pianists in Lyceum, securing numerous accolades in piano competitions such as 'Carl Czerny - not just études' and 'Art is us, art is me.'

Soon I became one of the best pianists in Lyceum. Withing 3 years of studying I won many piano competitions such as 'Carl Czerny - not just etudes' or 'Art is us, art is me'. During my studies at Lyceum of arts I was influenced by the piano music I was performing there. Those were pieces of Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Frederic Chopin, Claude Debussy. However, Difficulties didn't end there. My vision of music was always beyond the boundaries of academic teaching. Every small step in the direction of music composition was met with skepticism. Creativity was, at times, perceived as unconventional. Disillusioned with the constraints of post-Soviet academic arts education, I decided to chart my own path. By the end of my time at the Lyceum of Arts, I was fed up with the rigid post-Soviet education system.

It was a tough decision for me, but I chose to forgo Kharkiv University of Arts in favor of Jagiellonian University in Poland, Krakow. This marked a significant period in my musical path, where I had to find my own way.

During this period, while my bachelor studies leaned towards history and humanities, I found myself surrounded by a artistic community. Here, I delved deeply into the complexities of music production and composition. During these years I crystallized my distinctive musical style. Instead of complexity, I aimed for simplicity, where every sound, instrument, and detail held profound value. This phase drew inspiration from the works of artists like Arvo Pärt, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Ludwig Göransson.

As my expertise in music production deepened, I went into the world of freelance work, offering music production services on the Upwork platform. It was during this period that I discovered my specialty — Film Scoring, a domain that perfectly merged my lifelong interest in film production with my professional prowess in music composition.

Currently, I am studying Audio Engineering at SAE Institute Frankfurt. This further develops my skills and understanding of audio and music production.

Today, my portfolio includes cover songs, over a dozen original compositions, which will form toghether an upcoming album titled 'Noone Will Hear', and a selection of film soundtracks. I'm currently on a mission to secure a full-time role as a composer for TV and Film/Game Music production.
